Ceresit ZU Universal Adhesive & Base Coat Render is a high-performance cement-based mortar designed for fixing EPS insulation boards and forming reinforced basecoat layers within Ceresit Ceretherm ETICS façade systems. Suitable for both internal and external applications, Ceresit ZU provides excellent adhesion to mineral substrates and expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation boards while delivering a durable and impact-resistant reinforced layer ready for decorative render finishes. Its versatile formulation allows it to be used as both an adhesive and basecoat, helping simplify façade system installation on residential, commercial, and refurbishment projects.
25kg bag of Ceresit ZU typically covers upto 5m² when used for fixing EPS insulation boards and upto 3m² when used as a reinforced basecoat layer at 6mm thickness.

Surface Preparation
Ceresit ZU must be applied onto sound, dry, clean, and load-bearing substrates free from dust, grease, bitumen, oil, or other substances which may reduce adhesion.
Suitable substrates include:- Concrete surfaces
- Traditional cement and lime-cement plasters
- Masonry substrates including brick and blockwork
- Existing mineral renders with good adhesion
- Expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation boards
Highly absorbent substrates should first be primed with Ceresit CT17 primer before application. Uneven or damaged substrates should be repaired and levelled prior to installation of insulation boards or reinforcement layers.
When used as a reinforced basecoat, alkali-resistant reinforcing mesh should be fully embedded within the mortar layer following ETICS system recommendations. Freshly applied material must be protected from rapid drying, rain, frost, and excessive heat during curing.
