Product Description

DESCRIPTION

This is an attractive, quick drying, water-based, acrylic coating available in both satin and gloss finishes. It gives long lasting protection to external wood, allowing the natural grain to show through. It is milky white whilst liquid but dries to a clear colourless film.

PREPARATION

The surface must be clean and free from dust, dirt and grease. Previously coated surfaces should be rubbed down to provide a key, but if the old finish is not in good condition, remove with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. Do not use a blow lamp or caustic strippers. Wood should be smooth and sound prior to application.

APPLICATION

Stir well before use. Apply liberally across the grain with a full brush using the largest brush practical for the job. Synthetic soft tipped brushes designed for water based varnishes are recommended. Finish by brushing lightly with the grain taking care not to over brush. The first coat may be thinned up to 15% water if applying in very warm conditions. Do not apply to warm surfaces or in strong direct sunlight if possible. If the first coat raises the grain, sand lightly with fine abrasive paper before applying another coat. 3 coats will provide adequate protection, but for improved durability, 4 coats are recommended. If the wood is porous or weathered, further applications may be required. The colour of bare wood may be changed with Rustins Wood Dyes. The varnish is ideal as a sealer for interior and exterior concrete. Do not use below 10°C, in damp conditions or if rain is imminent.

MAINTENANCE: The finish will not flake or peel and will last many years if applied correctly. When re-coating if necessary, lightly sand the surface to key then clean with a mild detegent solution and water. Allow to dry then re-coat.

RE-COATING TIME

The Varnish will be dry in approximately 30 minutes depending on the temperature and humidity, and further coats should be applied after a minimum of four hours. If applying over wood previously treated with a wood preservative test a small area first to ensure the varnish dries and adheres well. If the varnish fails to dry or adhere then the surface of the wood must be thoroughly cleaned with white spirit and steel wood or a plastic scouring pad.

CLEANING

Remove as much paint as possible and return to the container. Brushes should then be cleaned immediately with water.
