PREPARATION
Stir before use until there is no sediment at the bottom of the tin. If not stirred the varnish may dry to a gloss.
The surface must be clean, smooth and free from dust. If applying over existing varnish, it should be lightly sanded to provide a key. If flaking or cracking, it should be stripped using Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper.
APPLICATION
- Using a good quality brush, apply evenly. When applying to new wood, thin with 25% white spirit by volume.
- Previously varnished surfaces if intact, should be cleaned with white spirit or Rustins Surface cleaner and steel wool to ensure the surface is clean and free from wax and grease. Weather-stained wood can be bleached with Rustins Wood Bleach. The thickness of the varnish film is important and for good durability, at least three coats should be applied. It is better to apply during warm, dry weather.
RECOATING
Further coats can be applied once the previous coat is hard dry. This will usually be after 12 hours depending on the temperature and humidity at the time of application.
COVERAGE
1 litre will cover approximately 13 sq m in one coat depending on the absorbency of the surface.
CLEAN BRUSHES
Clean brushes whilst wet usin Rustins Brush Cleaner or white spirit. Hard brushes can be cleaned with Rustins Brush Restorer.
